Center for Translational Research
The Center for Translational Research (CTR), located within St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Maryland, is an integral part of CHI’s commitment to incorporate personalized medicine into delivered healthcare.
The CTR is the first of its kind research center to leverage a 70+ community hospital network with a state of the art research and development laboratory. The CTR promotes research and treatments that are personalized not only by disease or tumor type, but also by an individual’s genetic profile.
The CTR’s strengths are illustrated through its three interrelated activities:
-
CTR Discovery Research Network – collecting high-quality samples and related clinical data, utilizing CHI hospitals, dedicated staff, software and IRB-approved protocols. These components form the infrastructure to implement multi-site research studies such as:
- National Cancer Institute's Cancer Genome Atlas project
- International Severe Adverse Event Consortium’s Drug Induced Liver Injury project
- CTR MDx Laboratory - Equipped with state-of-the art platforms, expert scientists and laboratorians. The facility meets Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) requirements, and is certified variety of diagnostic and molecular tests.
-
CTR Development Services – the translational research laboratory is a powerful resource for analyzing biomarkers, associated assay formats and validation in preparation of regulatory filings new and emerging clinical tests.
With assistance from the MDx laboratory, tests can be translated into a laboratory developed test with full operational and regulatory infrastructure.
